With the Virtual Reading Room service, you can view rare materials remotely via a high-resolution document camera. A session can be scheduled with a library staff member and will take place via Teams Meeting, a video conferencing system from Microsoft. Each session will last one hour, and participants will only be allowed to view one rare book or one box of manuscript materials. Please note that this is not a research consultation with a subject expert; it is a service to view rare materials remotely.
Attendees can request up to three appointments per month and may capture up to 10 JPEG images during the appointment. If additional images are needed, then an imaging services request can be made.
Fill out the form below to schedule a meeting with a library staff member. Requests for a Virtual Reading Room appointment must be submitted ten business days in advance. Appointments for sessions are available from 10: 00 a.m. - 11: 00 a.m. (PT).
We are unable to accommodate fragile, oversize, and selected materials that are under copyright as well as requests to view the Los Angeles Area Court Records.
For these types of materials, we suggest placing an Imaging Services Request.
