All researchers – including new readers and renewing readers – must receive a brief, one-on-one orientation with Reader Services staff at the beginning of their first visit or first return visit to the library. Visit the Reader Services Calendar to schedule an orientation.

The orientation lasts approximately 15 minutes to discuss library policies and procedures. Library cards are issued/renewed during the orientation.

Reader Services will schedule your orientation upon confirming your reading room appointment.

  • Bring a current government-issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport) with you to your orientation.
  • Be prepared to have your photo taken for identification purposes.

Researchers may proceed to the reading room after the orientation.
