The Huntington is well-known for its Biblia Latinaor “Gutenberg Bible,” printed in 1450-1455 by Johannes Gutenberg and Johannes Fust. Henry Huntington purchased the oldest example of early European printing in 1911 for a record-setting $50,000.    

With the acquisition of the Burndy Library collection in November 2006, The Huntington’s oldest example of printing became the Scripture of the Great Flower Ornament of the Buddha, volume 45 大方廣佛華嚴經卷第四十五. This woodblock text was printed in China in 1085, during the Song Dynasty.
